Super Compactor MEGAN 7-20

The MEGAN Super Compactor series has been designed in cooperation with Siemens KWU (now AREVA NP) GmbH especially for compacting radioactive contaminated wastes. Consequently the following advantageous characteristics for operation, service and maintenance arise:

  • 2-vertical-guide-column-design of the compactor frame:

– Cleear distribution of forces within the compactor (4-column-design is hyperstatic!).
– Reduced quantity of components and guidance elements reduce wear and tear during operation and therefore reduced maintenance.
– Easy access for cleaning (decontamination), maintenance and service due to reduced components and increased space inside the press.

  • No request for disassembly the press for changing wear and tear parts.
  • The compaction tools consist of segmented rings which are fixed inside the mould and around the press ram. This guarantees reduced wear and tear, and easy servicing and decontamination.
  • Due to segmental construction method the compaction tools are easily changeable to different drum diameters (e. g. 160 l up to 210 l drums) without disassembly the press structure.
  • The press plate is integrated in a drip pan. This ensures a direct discharge of liquids and prevents spreading of contamination when drum piercing is made to the bottom side of drums.
  • A swivelling mounted compactor ram (Patent Protection) reduces tangential forces when compacting drums with difficult compressible content and prevents compaction tools from damage.
  • Drum piercing from the bottom side in order to drain all liquids off the pellet, alternatively drum perforation by drilling unit is possible as well.
  • Bellows with a ventilation system connector join the mould and compactor ram to create a closed environment during compaction and thus prevent spreading of contamination to the surrounding area. Additional press housing is not necessarily requested.
  • The Super Compactor control system allows recording at least 12 compacting programmes. These parameters settings are individually adjustable for pellet quality:

– Hydraulic pressure: 50 to 350 bar
– Compaction force: 2 to 20 MN
– Compaction ram speed rate: 0,01 to 0,8 m/min
– Compacting time and dwell time: 1 sec. to 10 mim

  • Adjustment of compacting parameters according to the needs of the materials to be compacted. This avoids the bursting of crumple drums during the compacting operation.
  • Proof of operational span up to 60 years for compactor frame.
  • Fully automatic and remote operation with external data tracking system. In according to the drum content to be compacted the convenient pressing program can be selected by operator personnel.
  • Mobile operator panel at the press for mechanical adjustments and safe service and repair.
  • Visualization system with operating symbols and multi language display indicating the operational status and displaying error massages.
